Beschreibung

Voxelotor is a drug used to treat hypoxemia in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a long-acting bronchodilator that works by relaxing the smooth muscle cells in the lungs, which leads to improved breathing and decreased airway resistance. Voxelotor has been shown to be effective in patients with hepatic impairment, although it is not recommended for use in patients with moderate or severe liver dysfunction. The drug acts by binding to the soluble guanylate cyclase receptor on the surface of cells and activating this enzyme, which increases levels of cyclic GMP (cGMP) within these cells. Cyclic GMP stimulates the production of cAMP, which opens up airways and relaxes muscles in the lungs. There are no known drug interactions associated with voxelotor, but it should not be taken at the same time as other drugs that bind to calcium ions such as Ca2+ ionophores or drugs that induce hematopoies
