Produktinformation
Haloperidol lauroate is a long-acting antipsychotic drug that belongs to the class of polyene. It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Haloperidol lauroate is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (R)-(-)-haloperidol and (S)-(+)-haloperidol. The two enantiomers have different pharmacological properties. The lauroyl ester moiety of haloperidol lauroate provides a prolonged duration of action due to its slow release in the body. This drug has been shown to be effective in rats with experimental Parkinson's disease by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain and reducing motor symptoms such as ratchet or impurities movement. This drug also has diagnostic applications for measuring activity levels of polyene drugs and for detecting cleavage products in animal tissues or fluids.
