Beschreibung

(Z)-Mycophenolic acid is a heterocyclic group that belongs to the class of mycophenolate. It has been shown to have potential anti-cancer properties, primarily in relation to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis, which may lead to cell death. (Z)-Mycophenolic acid is an active metabolite of mycophenolate mofetil and is also used in human trials for the treatment of myeloid leukemias. The drug inhibits DNA synthesis by binding competitively to dsDNA, preventing the attachment of the enzyme DNA polymerase and thus inhibiting DNA synthesis. This inhibition can lead to cell death by preventing cells from dividing or repairing their damaged DNA. (Z)-Mycophenolic acid binds tightly to cancer cells and can be used for the treatment of leukemia.
