It has been shown to have antioxidative properties and can be used for the treatment of cancer. 6-Hydroxymelatonin also has glucuronide conjugate, which can be detected using LC-MS/MS methods. In vivo studies on humans have shown that 6-hydroxymelatonin stimulates human macrophages and skin cells. Melatonin treatment has been shown to decrease the levels of 6-hydroxymelatonin in humans, which may lead to its anti-inflammatory effects.
