Beschreibung

Trans-hydroxypraziquantel is an anthelmintic drug that belongs to the group of quinolones. It is a racemate consisting of two enantiomers, which are mirror images of each other. Trans-hydroxypraziquantel has been used to treat schistosomiasis and other parasitic infections, as well as some forms of cancer. The pharmacologic properties of trans-hydroxypraziquantel are due to its uptake by the intestinal tract and subsequent metabolism in the liver, which results in a high plasma concentration. Trans-hydroxypraziquantel has been shown to be effective against various species of parasites and worms, including Schistosoma mansoni and Ascaris lumbricoides. This molecule binds to the parasite's plasma membrane by means of its hydrophobic properties, thus inhibiting phospholipid synthesis.
