Beschreibung

17a-Hydroxy progesterone is a hormone that regulates the menstrual cycle. It is used in the treatment of preterm labor and has been shown to reduce the need for caesarean section and improve neonatal outcomes. 17a-Hydroxy progesterone also has antiinflammatory activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by blocking cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) activity and thereby reducing inflammation. 17a-Hydroxy progesterone is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
