• Beschreibung: 3''-Hydroxy simvastatin is a potent and selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) to mevalonate in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway. It inhibits the production of cholesterol and other steroids, including glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and sex hormones. 3''-Hydroxy simvastatin is used to lower blood cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia. The acid form of 3''-hydroxy simvastatin is detectable by fluorescent probes in biological fluids at concentrations as low as 1 nanomolar. The lactone form of 3''-hydroxy simvastatin has been shown to have similar potency as atorvastatin.
