6-Hydroxy-2-methyl isoborneol (6HM) is a metabolite of myrrh. It is the hydroxylated form of 6-hydroxyisoborneol, which is synthesized by the enzymatic hydroxylation of 2-methylisoborneol. 6HM has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Rhodococcus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as some other bacteria. 6HM also has antifungal activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis and function of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes.
