Beschreibung

(S)-(-)-4-Hydroxy-2-pyrrolidinone is a chiral, optically pure compound. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. The FTIR spectra of this compound show that it has a tertiary phase, giving it a three-dimensional structure. The reaction product of this compound is a thioether with a hydroxy group on one end and a diffraction peak at 2θ=9.5°, which refutes its nature as an amide. This compound can be used as an acid catalyst for ring-opening reactions or lactam formation from amides.
