Duloxetine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that belongs to the class of dibenzocycloheptene-derivatives. Duloxetine is metabolized by CYP2D6 and CYP3A4, which are the enzymes responsible for glucuronidation. The plasma protein binding of duloxetine is 99%. There are two enantiomers with different pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Duloxetine has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. It has also been found to be safe for use in humans, although it may cause some side effects such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, decreased appetite and weight loss.
