Beschreibung

2-Hydroxymethylbutanoic acid is a fatty acid that is produced by the metabolism of propionyl-CoA in the mitochondria. It is synthesized in the liver and then metabolized to produce acetoacetic acid, which can lead to ketosis. 2-(Hydroxymethyl)butanoic acid has been found to be associated with clinical relevance for diagnosis and treatment of metabolic disorders. The levels of 2-hydroxymethylbutanoic acid are increased in patients with chronic kidney disease and are used as a marker for renal failure. This compound plays an important role in diagnosing nephrology dialysis, as it can be detected in urine samples.
