• Beschreibung: 6-Hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is a reaction product of 2-naphthol-6,8-disulfonic acid and amines. It is also called naphthol AS or naphthol ASH. This compound has been used in analytical chemistry for the determination of binding constants, phase liquid chromatography, and chromatographic methods. In addition to its use as an analytical reagent, 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is used in medicine as a sulfonation agent for the preparation of sodium salts, which are then used as antiseptics and disinfectants. The pH of the solution should be neutral or slightly acidic for the best results. The reaction proceeds more rapidly in hydrochloric acid than in other acids because it has a higher pKa value (9.5).
