- 4-Methyl-2-hydroxypyridine
2-Hydroxy-4-methylpyridine is a cyclotriphosphazene that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to have a gene sequence profile with a high degree of similarity to the genes for phenoxy group, chloride, phosphazene, and pyridine ring. The metabolic pathway for 2-Hydroxy-4-methylpyridine is not well understood. It may be metabolized by hydrolysis or oxidation before being excreted in urine. The binding site on the bacterial DNA for 2HMP is not yet known. It has not been determined if this drug interacts with any other ligands. 2-Hydroxy-4-methylpyridine does not bind to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment and does not appear to be toxic in rats when given orally at doses up to 2000 mg/kg/day.
