Beschreibung:2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonic acid is a sodium alkyl beta-sulfopropionate that has been used as a model system for HIV infection. It has been shown to decrease the replication of HIV in a model system by binding to the viral protein gp120 and inhibiting its attachment to CD4. 2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonic acid also inhibits the growth of rat liver cells, which may be due to its ability to bind calcium and inhibit cellular proliferation. This drug also binds to an agonist binding site on the neuronal membrane, which may be responsible for its activity as an antipsychotic drug. 2-Hydroxyethane-1-sulfonic acid has been shown to decrease locomotor activity in rats with hyperproliferative disease.
