17-b-Hydroxyetiocholan-3-one is a steroid hormone that is produced by the human body from testosterone. It has a variety of effects on the body, such as increasing blood pressure and brain cell growth. 17-b-Hydroxyetiocholan-3-one is also an estrogen, which can affect tissues in the body. Estrogens are used as dietary supplements to treat conditions such as menopause or breast cancer. There are different types of estrogens, including estradiol and estrone. 17-b-Hydroxyetiocholan-3-one is found in high concentrations in the brain cells of neonates and during puberty. The synthesis of 17-b-hydroxyetiocholan 3 one may be inhibited by phosphatase enzymes and it binds to specific DNA sequences called constitutive androstane receptor (CAR). 17 b hydroxyetiocholan 3 one can inhibit DNA methylation at specific sites called CpG sites.
