Beschreibung

Herbimycin is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the activity of tyrosine kinases. It is also a potent inhibitor of cellular transformation in HL-60 cells and inhibits the proliferation of human leukemia cells. Herbimycin has demonstrated cytotoxic effects on tumor cells by inhibiting cellular transformation, protein synthesis, and cellular energy metabolism. This compound has also been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a number of bacteria and fungi, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, and Cryptococcus neoformans. Herbimycin has also been shown to have anticancer properties in experimental models. The herbimycin molecule binds to cyclin D2 and prevents the formation of active cyclin D2/CDK4 complexes that are required for cell cycle progression.
