Heptafluorobutyric acid tetradecyl ester (HFBA) is a natural product that inhibits NF-κB, an inflammatory transcription factor. It has been shown to inhibit TNF-α and other proinflammatory cytokines in vitro. HFBA is also a supplement for the treatment of chronic inflammation and cancer. HFBA is a volatile liquid with a boiling point of 53°C. It is soluble in chloroform and insoluble in water. It has been shown to suppress lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation and reduce the production of nitric oxide by inhibiting arachidonic acid metabolism. HFBA also inhibits the activity of fatty acid synthase, which catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA into malonyl-CoA, leading to reductions in the production of fatty acids.br>
