Beschreibung

2-(2-Isothiocyanatoethyl)thiophene is a compound that is used to study the mechanism of HIV infection. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of HIV in the presence of human cells and to block viral production in cell cultures. 2-(2-Isothiocyanatoethyl)thiophene is able to inhibit HIV production by blocking the activity of certain enzymes, such as styryl dehydrogenase and aromatic aldehyde dehydrogenase. These enzymes are involved in the conversion of styryl and aromatic aldehydes into reactive intermediates that can react with nucleic acids. 2-(2-Isothiocyanatoethyl)thiophene also inhibits other enzymes that are responsible for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins, which may contribute to its anti-HIV activity.
