Beschreibung

2-Isothiocyanatobenzonitrile is an organosulfur compound that has bactericidal activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It can be used as a preservative in food and also as a disinfectant. 2-Isothiocyanatobenzonitrile reacts with chloride to form thiocyanate ions, which bind to the bacterial cell wall and inhibit its growth. The crystal structure of factor receptor was solved by X-ray crystallography, revealing that the binding site is located at the interface between the two domains. Thiocarbamates are similar to antibiotics in that they are broad spectrum inhibitors of protein synthesis and have been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF) production in human epidermoid carcinoma cells.
