3-Iodo-2-methylaniline is a glycol ether that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against the human hepatoma cell line Hep G2. It has also been found to inhibit the growth of certain types of tumor cells, such as those that produce human growth factor. 3-Iodo-2-methylaniline is extracted from cucurbitacin B, which is found in cucurbitaceae plants. The extract contains a variety of natural drugs, including acetate and lignans. 3-Iodo-2-methylaniline can be synthesized by reacting trifluoroacetic acid with glycol ethers, such as ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol.
