This interaction leads to the formation of a thin film on ZrO2 particles, which can be removed by heating. Isophorone has been shown to have carcinogenic effects in both animal and human studies. Amino acid sequencing from calf thymus DNA has shown that isophorone interacts with thymine bases through hydrogen bonding interactions.
