Ioxitalamic acid is a sodium salt of ioxitalamic acid that has been used as a contrast agent in angiography. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that ioxitalamic acid is excreted in the urine with a half-life of about 4 hours. The drug has also been used to induce cell lysis, which is an analytical technique used to measure the number of cells present in a sample. Ioxitalamic acid can be detected by plasma mass spectrometry and blood sampling.
