Isoboldine is a diazonium salt that contains a 5-ht2c receptor agonist. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells in vitro and to decrease serum prolactin levels in vivo. Isoboldine also inhibits the angiotensin system and antibody response, which may be due to its antioxidative properties. The chemical structure of isooldine is related to protopine, which is an endogenous compound found in plants. Protopine has been shown to have 5-ht2 agonist properties that may be responsible for the anticancer activity of isooldine.
