3-S-Isothiuronium propyl sulfonate is an agent that stabilizes and cross-links DNA. It is used for the hybridization of DNA, which is a process whereby two complementary strands of DNA are joined together. 3-S-Isothiuronium propyl sulfonate has been shown to enhance the optical properties of gold nanoparticles, making them better suited for use in microscopy. The agent has also been used as a chloride ion enhancer in crystallography experiments and as a transduction cross-linking agent in electron microscopy experiments.
