In one study, 3IP was found to bind to bone and be taken up by osteoclasts, leading to an increase in the amount of light emitted. Bone resorption was observed when 3IP was administered orally and intravenously in rats. Radiopharmaceuticals are designed to emit radiation, such as beta particles or gamma rays, when they decay.
