- Isoimonexic acid
Isolimonexin is a polyphenol found in plants of the genus Citrus. Isolimonexin has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in vitro, although its mechanism of action is not well understood. It has been shown that isolimonexin can inhibit cancer cells in vivo by causing cell cycle arrest, increased levels of reactive oxygen species and DNA damage, and induction of apoptosis. Isolimonexin has also demonstrated chemopreventive effects against pancreatic cancer through its ability to reduce the expression of 3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (EBT) which leads to an increase in the expression of antioxidant enzymes such as catalase and glutathione peroxidase. The flavonoids present in isolimonexin are responsible for these biological properties.
