This binding inhibits DNA replication by blocking the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. (-)-Jasmonic acid methyl ester also binds to specific proteins on animal cells, resulting in inhibition of protein synthesis and body formation.
