Lithium aluminium hydride is an organometallic compound that can be used in organic synthesis. It has been shown to have a high affinity for human serum, and is used in the asymmetric synthesis of pharmaceuticals. Lithium aluminium hydride has also been shown to inhibit DPP-IV, which are enzymes that break down proteins in the digestive tract. This inhibition may be due to lithium's ability to bind to water molecules in the body, decreasing their permeability. Lithium also has shown anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its metabolic effects on nitrogen atoms.
