Beschreibung

Lysosphingomyelin is a sphingolipid that is found in the cytosolic and plasma membranes of cells. It is involved in cell signaling, with various biological effects on cells. Lysosphingomyelin has been shown to be reactive with free radicals, leading to cytotoxic effects on cells. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been used to detect lysosphingomyelin in human blood samples. This lipid also has an optimum concentration for transfection experiments and plays a role in the binding of DNA. Lysosphingomyelin has been shown to induce enzyme activities such as phosphatidylcholine synthase, phosphatidylethanolamine synthase, phosphatidylserine synthase, and acetyl-CoA carboxylase.
