Laudanine is a natural product that is produced by the opium poppy plant. It has been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the expression of certain genes. Laudanine also inhibits the production of prostaglandins by inactivating the enzyme papaverine, which catalyzes the conversion of DOPA to dopamine. Laudanine has been shown to have potential for use as a precursor for new drugs with antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties.
