Beschreibung

Bupropion is a drug that inhibits dopamine reuptake and is used for the treatment of depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and seasonal affective disorder. It is also used to help people stop smoking. Bupropion has been shown to have a low oral bioavailability due to its hydrophobic properties. This drug binds to the dopamine transporter in the brain and reduces the rate of dopamine uptake by neurons. The half-life of bupropion ranges from 16 hours to 27 hours, which makes it suitable for once-daily dosing. Bupropion appears to be an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) as well as an antagonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in certain brain regions, leading to its antidepressant effects.
