Beschreibung:2-Mercaptonicotinic acid (2MNA) is an inhibitor of the P-glycoprotein, which is a multidrug resistance-associated protein. It prevents the transport of drugs and other molecules across the cell membrane. 2MNA has been shown to inhibit cancer cells in cervical cancer studies, and has been proven to reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy drugs in rats. 2MNA binds to p-glycoprotein and inhibits its function by forming a disulfide bond with cysteine residues on the transporter. 2MNA also has toxic effects on human serum and may be hazardous for use as a therapeutic agent.
