Mandelamide is an amide derivative that has a hydroxyl group at the C-3 position. The optimum pH for the chemical reaction is between 7 and 8, with a ph of 6.5 being the optimum. Mandelamide has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects in rats, which may be due to its inhibition of protein synthesis and glucose uptake in the liver. It also has antibacterial properties against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Streptococcus pyogenes. Mandelamide also inhibits fatty acid synthase and inorganic acid production by inhibiting protein synthesis in cells. This activity provides potential therapeutic benefits for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
