m-Phenylene diamine 4 sulphonic acid (MPDA) is a widely used chemical for the treatment of wastewater. It is an anionic surfactant that reacts with cyanuric acid to form an acid complex. This reaction is exothermic, so a large amount of heat is generated during the process. MPDA has been shown to be effective against sulfa drugs and other organic compounds, such as amines and fatty acids. The optimum concentration for this reaction solution is 2% by volume. MPDA can also be applied in biological treatment and as a proton donor in sodium carbonate production.
