Matofluthrin is a pyrethroid insecticide that inhibits the central nervous system of insects and is used in mosquito control. Matofluthrin has been shown to be effective against mosquitoes, but not other insects. It binds with high affinity to the ryanodine receptor and dopamine receptors in the central nervous system of mosquitoes, which leads to paralysis and death. The long-term efficacy of matofluthrin has been demonstrated by its use as a larvicide in water storage tanks. Matofluthrin can be detected in urine samples using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry.
