3-Methylpiperidine is a synthetic chemical that belongs to the group of heterocyclic compounds. 3-Methylpiperidine has a low energy and is not reactive with chloride or amines. 3-Methylpiperidine has been shown to bind to model proteins, such as Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) in order to study protein structure and function. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy data analysis showed that 3-methylpiperidine binds to the amide carbonyl of BSA at high concentrations and modifies its vibrational properties.
