5-Methylpyrimidin-4-amine is a prodrug that is converted to the active form, pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, by an enzyme in the body. It has been shown to have anticancer activity and can be used as a cancer therapy. This drug interacts with metal ions such as chloride and inhibits glycopeptide antibiotics. 5-Methylpyrimidin-4-amine may also act as a reductant or reactive amide.
