(2-(Methoxycarbonyl)phenyl)boronic acid is a boronic acid that has the ability to catalyze reactions such as the Grignard reaction, azide displacement, and Staudinger ligation. It is used in the synthesis of organic compounds with a wide variety of functional groups. This compound can be used as a photochromic reagent due to its ability to reversibly change from yellow to colorless upon exposure to ultraviolet light. (2-(Methoxycarbonyl)phenyl)boronic acid also reacts with hydrogen chloride or isopropyl chloroformate in the presence of an acid catalyst, yielding an active ester with a lactam group.
