Methyl 2-amino-3-hydroxybutanoate hydrochloride is a heterocycloalkyl antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to extracellular enzymes, such as matrix metalloproteinases. It also binds to 5-membered heteroaryl and coagulation proteases, which may contribute to its antibacterial activity. Methyl 2-amino-3-hydroxybutanoate hydrochloride is a stereoisomer of aminoglycosides and acts as an antimicrobial agent. This compound has been shown to be effective against gram-negative bacterial infections and has been studied for its use in the treatment of Gram negative bacterial infections, such as those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Klebsiella pneumoniae.
