Beschreibung:
Methyl 1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate is a chiral, phenyl compound that has been studied by x-ray structure analysis. It is a mixture of two forms, one of which has a methyl group on the imidazole and the other has a methyl group on the phenyl ring. The asymmetric form is obtained via an alkylation reaction with methyl iodide and potassium carbonate in methanol followed by hydrolysis. This product is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
