The drug is used to relieve inflammation and pain. 2-(1-Methyl-5-(4-methylbenzoyl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)acetic acid has been shown in vitro assays to be toxic to epidermal cells and inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The drug also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL6, IL8, and TNFα by activated human monocytes in vitro. It has been shown to have antiinflammatory activity in experimental models for arthritis, colitis, and asthma.
