Methyl trifluoropyruvate is an organometallic compound that has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against a variety of infectious diseases. The mechanism of action for methyl trifluoropyruvate is not fully understood, but it has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme transcriptase. It also inhibits the activity of the enzyme ethyl diazoacetate, which involved in amino acid synthesis. Methyl trifluoropyruvate has been shown to be active against bacteria and protozoans, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Plasmodium falciparum. This drug may be used as an alternative treatment for malaria. Methyl trifluoropyruvate binds to fatty acids and amines through an activated nitrogen atom on its structure. The asymmetric synthesis of this drug is achieved by using chromatographic techniques with an analytical method involving amines.
