2-Methoxy-4(1H)-pyrimidinone is an organic compound that is produced by the diazotization of benzyl alcohol with sodium nitrite. The reaction system employed for this process is regiospecific and reproducible, and the hydrolysis product of 2-methoxy-4(1H)-pyrimidinone is thiourea. This compound can be used to synthesize pyrimidine derivatives such as alkylating agents and dichloroketene, which are useful in the synthesis of congener compounds. Yields obtained from 2-methoxy-4(1H)-pyrimidinone range from 57% to 82%.
