2-Methoxy-2-methyl-1-propanol is a synthetic chemical that is used in the manufacture of other chemicals. It is also used to produce technetium, which is a radioactive isotope. The compound can be manufactured by dehydrogenating methoxyacetic acid or by catalytic hydrogenation of 2-methylpropene. It has been used as a cloning agent in the synthesis of proteins and DNA.
