Beschreibung

5-Methyl-3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid (5MPIA) is a potent inhibitor of the acylation reaction. It has been shown to be an effective corrosion inhibitor for the corneal surface and organic solvents. 5MPIA also appears to have anti-inflammatory properties and was shown to inhibit virus replication in cell culture. The optimum concentration of this agent is 2 mM, at which it has a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.34 mM. 5MPIA has been studied as a possible treatment for inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. This compound is structurally similar to other inhibitors, such as 3-(4′-methylphenoxy)propionic acid and 3-(4′-chlorophenoxy)propionic acid. 5MPIA has been tested in clinical trials for the treatment of psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis with promising results.
