- Methyl (2-methylphenyl)(oxo)acetate
Methyl 2-methylphenylglyoxylate is an organic compound that is a potent fungicide. It is synthesized by the cross-coupling of 2-methylacetophenone with magnesium bromide and hydroxylamine in the presence of copper(I) chloride. The product can be used as a grignard reagent or in a hydrolytic reaction to produce N,N'-diacetyl-2,6-diisopropylaniline. This compound has also been shown to have potent antifungal activity against species that are resistant to kresoxim-methyl, such as Cercospora beticola, Colletotrichum coccodes, and Rhizoctonia solani.
