This photocurrent can be detected using an ammeter and lead to the determination of protein concentration. 3-Methylbenzothiazolium Iodide has also been used as a fluorescent probe in DNA sequencing reactions. The reaction produces fluorescence when excited by low-energy radiation such as ultraviolet or visible light.
