It is a member of the methoxides family and can be produced by condensation of chloroform with acetaldehyde and formaldehyde. 4-Methoxy-2,3,5-trimethylpyridine inhibits palladium chloride from catalyzing hydrogenation reactions. The compound also has an inhibiting activity against acidic amines and n-Oxides. Its high yield makes it useful in organic synthesis as a precursor to diethyl malonate.
