Beschreibung:3-(Methylphosphinico)propionic acid (3-MPPA) is a metabolite of glyphosate and has been detected in urine samples. It was found to be resistant to enzymatic hydrolysis and the formation of 3-MPPA is catalyzed by trimethyl phosphine, a reaction that can be inhibited by ammonium formate. The presence of 3-MPPA in urine has been correlated with exposure to glyphosate, which is commonly used as an herbicide on crops. 3-MPPA also reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to produce trimethyl phosphine gas, which can be detected using spectrometers. 3-MPPA has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
