Monoxerutin is a flavonol glycoside that has antioxidative properties. It is found in the leaves and bark of the plant Troxerutin (Rhamnus purshiana) and is used as a natural remedy for the treatment of infectious diseases. Monoxerutin can be synthesized through the reaction of sodium citrate, troxerutin, and dinucleotide phosphate. This compound has been shown to inhibit various reactive oxygen species, including nitric oxide and peroxynitrite. Monoxerutin also inhibits the activity of phosphodiesterase enzymes that are involved in the regulation of cellular signaling pathways, which may provide protection against myocardial infarction. The molecular pathogenesis of this compound is not yet fully understood.
